S P Bakshi: Dr S P Bakshi was born in Jammu in 1913. He studied at Prince of Wales College Jammu and then did his Masters in English Literature from Foreman Christian College Lahore. In 1935 he joined as a Civilian Instructor in the Officers training School of the J&K State Forces. In time he rose to be the Chief Education Officer of the J&K State Forces and became very close to the ruling family. He was a personal witness to the invasion and accession of the State. Post accession he was absorbed into the Indian Army as a civilian officer and retired in 1971. Two of his sons joined the parent Regiment of the J&K Rifles (former State Forces). The eldest Capt SR Bakshi was killed in action in the 1965 War and the second rose to be a Maj Gen and saw extensive combat in J&K. Post his retirement he qualified as a Homeopathic Physician and had a flourishing practice for 30 years. He also became a trained teacher of Transcendental Meditation and taught this art extensively to medical practioners and college students. He is a prolific author with five books to his credit. These are The Quest, A Modern Guide to Homeopathy, Translation of Vedic Prayers, Glimpses and the Bouquet.
